A five-minute lesson each day. Hear the word in your own language, then in English, tap its picture, say it back. Words you know come back less often; words you miss come back soon. Voyaversal began as Sama Làkk, “my language” in Wolof: an app for one woman learning English from Jola Boyote. Jola Boyote (also called Bayot) is spoken by about twenty thousand people around the borders of Senegal, The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau, and has no written form of its own yet. Voyaversal does not impose one: the people who speak it build it, word by word, and every step is kept.Voyaversal est né de Sama Làkk, « ma langue » en wolof : une application pour une femme qui apprenait l’anglais depuis le jola boyote. Le jola boyote (aussi appelé bayot) est parlé par environ vingt mille personnes autour des frontières du Sénégal, de la Gambie et de la Guinée-Bissau, et n’a pas encore d’écriture propre. Voyaversal n’en impose aucune : ceux qui le parlent la construisent, mot après mot, et chaque étape est conservée.
